Frequently Asked Questions
Why are some oranges redder than others?
The red pigmentation (anthocyanins) depends on the temperature range between day and night caused by the nearby Mount Etna. Colder nights mean redder, tastier oranges!
Are they good for juicing?
Absolutely. Our blood oranges from Palagonia have a very high juice yield. They are sweet, refreshing, and perfect for breakfast, but also great for eating fresh.
Is the peel treated? Can I use it for cooking?
The peel is 100% edible. We do not use any shining waxes or post-harvest chemical treatments. You can safely use the zest for baking, candied peels, or marmalade.
How long do they last and how should I store them?
Since they are never kept in cold storage, they arrive extremely fresh. Take them out of the box and keep them in a cool, ventilated place or in the fridge. They will last for weeks.
Are they harvested right before shipping?
Yes, we pick your oranges from the tree only after receiving your order. In 48/72 hours they travel from our farm in Sicily directly to your table.
